Urban transformation gained importance in Turkey with the Law on the Transformation of Areas Under Disaster Risk enacted in 2012. The purpose of this law is to define the procedures and principles for improvement, clearance, and renewal in disaster-risk areas and in lands containing risky buildings outside these areas, in order to create healthy and safe living environments in accordance with engineering and architectural standards.
